West Georgia Wrestling presents Pro Wrestling @ Gold Dust Park.
On a bit of a nostalgia trip with coming out to WGW; Billy
Knight’s UIW shows were among the first wrestling shows I attended as a fan and
later started shooting ringside pictures thanks to Billy and Mark Grason. Some
things haven’t changed much out here; the fans still love Frankie Valentine and
detest Brad Lynch and whatever members who are in the So Fine Mafia at whatever
time.
The show starts with the National Anthem and a 10-bell
salute for “Granny”, a long time superfan here in West Georgia. Jason Boyd
brings out J-Rod who has the faces come out and pays tribute to Granny. J-Rod
then tears into Papa Marko and his opponent tonight, Brother Azrael. Some stips
are added to a tag match to night that if the face team wins, J-Rod will finally
get Papa Marko.
I’m in the wrong part of the building to hear what was
said over the speakers but that’s a small price to pay in order to have enough space
between Brandon Whatley and myself.
150-160 in the building, which is pretty great as there was
a major concert happening in the area. The ring announcers for tonight will be
Jason Boyd and Summer. WGW GM Scott East will be rolling around the building,
handing out edicts as needed.
Card subject to change for the main event for the show. Will have to see what they come up with.
Boyd then brings out Frankie Valentine to address the
actions of Kody Jack at the previous show. Jack betrayed Frankie at the last
show and he wants Jack right now. Jack comes out in civvies, distraction
Frankie to allow the Mercenary to attack from behind while Jack is mouthing off
on the microphone. Id didn’t hear the bell ring, but Ref Butterbean’s in the
ring officiating. The usual Valentine beat down occurs, until he school boys
Merc for the win. Time: approx. 4 minutes.
GM Scott East makes the main event for tonight Frankie
Valentine and Kody Jack.
2: “The King of West Georgia” Sean Nelson vs. Sean Sims.
Nelson comes out with crown and royal robes, drawing the ire
of the crowd. When Sims comes out, the front row group are telling him how
badly Nelson needs to get beat. Nelson bails out of the ring, not scared at
all. Sims out muscles Nelson on the first tie-up and the second. Sims now out
wrestling Nelson and then just manhandling him, getting a near fall from a
mid-ring splash. Cheap shot to the kidneys by Nelson and the hurt is on Sims
now. After a few minutes, Sims start punching his way up but a running lariat
sends him back down on the canvas. Nelson grabs something from his trunks, Ref
Hall sees it and grabs it. As Hall was dealing with that, Nelson yam bags Sims
for the win at 7:29.
Boyd brings out Summer to do the next match.
Brandon Whatley comes out and cuts a promo on how the WGW
champ Aaron Dallas wasn’t here tonight, but graciously offers to put his ProSouth
Championship on the line.
3: The Serpent Assassin Brandon Whatley (c) vs. Eddie
Honcho.
Honcho comes out to House of Pain, which gets the crowd up
and waving their hands, Whatley’s not amused. Whatley’s even less enthused by
all of Honcho’s shenanigans. Honcho catches Whatley by surprise and almost beer
nutz him, but Whatley rolls out of the ring. Honcho follows, and Whatley
catches him on re-entry. The calculating viciousness of Whatley is on full
display, mixing in wrestling, MMA strikes, and some straight right hands. Honcho
tries punching his way up, but some kicks and then a forearm sends Honcho right
back down. Honcho’s holding onto his left shoulder, starts firing away with his
right hand, knocking Whatley down in the corner, and that means it’s stinkface
time! Honcho gets a near fall. Whatley goes after the injured shoulder again,
landing a brutal kick, right on the joint. Whatley grabs the title and goes to
hit Honcho who ducks and plants Whatley with a Samoan Drop. Honcho looks to use
the title, but Butterbean grabs the belt. Whatley hits honcho with the knucks
and picks up the win at 9:44. Still ProSouth Champion, Brandon Whatley, who
walks to the back holding the belt high above his head, and me holding onto my
new lap top, poised to make a run for it.
4: Brother Azrael with Marko Polo and Leland J. Thall, Esq. vs. J-Rod.
Marko comes out limping and using a cane and wearing a neck
brace and having his left arm in a sling. J-Rod’s walking into a possible
3-on-1 situation. Thall says that Polo and Papa Marko are not the same person.
J-rod Knocks Thall out of the ring and Thall has to be helped to the back. Things
are going J-Rod’s way until he turns his attention to Polo, allowing Azrael to attack.
Polo gets some cheap shots in when Azrael distracts Ref Hall. J-Rod landing
blows to the head of Azrael and goes up top and splashes down on for a near
fall. Bulldog to Az for a near fall. Az catches J-Rod with a spinebuster for a
near fall, J-Rod locks in a crossface . Polo gets into the ring and hits J-Rod
with a piece of his medical equipment. Winner by DQ: J-rod at 5:48. Polo’s miraculously
healed. Brad Lynch and Merc run out and join the J-Rod hit parade. AJ Black and
Jaden Vain run out with chairs to chase them off.
Intermission.
5: The So Fine Mafia (Brad Lynch and The Mercenary with
Marko Wick) vs. Jaden Vain and AJ Black.
Polo’s back to being injured, guess the adrenaline wore off.
SFM’s ring entrances is always something to behold: extended (and I do mean
extended) music entrance, then a leisurely stroll around the ring, surrounded
by security (and they do need it) yakking at the crowd, getting them riled up,
then a promo in the ring with the crowd doing their best to drown out the sound
system. Even after all these years, the hate they generate is still impressive.
Wick will wrestle despite his injuries, he credits his spiritual healer
Talliaferro who comes out to the ring. Taliaferro has a specially prepared elixir
that will allow Wick to wrestle for the next 24 hours. Wick drinks, stumbles a
bit in reaction, and then pops up and drops the injury gimmicks. Scott East
wonders where he can get some of that.
Vain and Black get the crowd to pop for their entrance and
they pose in the corners. Both Black and Vain are second generation wrestlers,
but still decades behind the experience of Wick and Lynch. Age and treachery will
overcome youth and exuberance is the cliché, we’ll have to see how it plays
out. Black uses the exuberance to knock Lynch out of the ring, and he’s slow to
get back in. Wick and Vain in, Wick works the arm, but Vain turns it around and
sends Wick out to the floor. Wick rakes the eyes and tags out, Lynch in and he
gets arm dragged. They work over Lynch’s arm with twists and double teams. A
double team backfires when Lynch reverses and dumps Black to the floor. Extra curricular
activity out on the floor, with Ref Butterbean distracted keeping Vain in the
ring.
Black gets worked over but good. SFM delight in dealing out
the punishment and the typical heel tag shenanigans. Black lands a springboard
cutter on Wick for the hope spot. He starts crawling and makes the tag to Vain.
I just noticed Mr. Black ringside, AJ’s father. Miscommunication between Vain
and Black allows Wick to pin Black at 14:07, might have been a blind tag, I
missed it. Black offers his hand to Vain and Vain powerslams him and starts
pounding away on AJ. J-rod runs out and throws a trash can into the ring,
chasing away Vain. Peanut had paid off Vain to betray AJ; East wants to know why
Mr. Black didn’t help his son, Mr. Black just chuckles. East threatens Peanut needs
to be at the next show to face his son or face expulsion. J-rod starts stalking
Peanut around the ring and chases him to the back.
Main Event: Kody Jack vs. Frankie Valentine with Tweety.
Jack plays the stalling game when Valentine enters the ring
and earns a you scared chant. He finally gets into the ring, Hall rings the
bell and Frankie spears Jack out of his boots. The fighting spills out onto the
floor and out into the crowd and then up into the bleachers. Frankie rams Jack
into one of the trash cans. Back near the ring, Jack posts Valentine and they
get back into the ring with Valentine taking the brunt of the punishment. Nice
delayed suplex by Jack. A boot to the face allows Valentine to land a cross
body from the top rope for a near fall.
A drop kick from Jack
sends Valentine back out to the floor. Jack looking to piledrive Valentine out
on the floor, it gets reversed into a back body drop. Body slam to the floor by
Valentine and he drags Jack back into the ring. Jack gets Valentine with a back
drop and sets Valentine up on the top turnbuckle, they fight up there and Valentine
shoves him off, but Jack rushes back and knocks Valentine from the top down to
the floor. Valentine meets the ring post again and Jack is looking the ring for
a chair which he slams onto the back of Valentine. Jack sets the chair in-between
the turnbuckles, Valentine reverses and jack hits face first. Valentine rams
Jack’s head into the chair again and Jack and the chair fall out of the ring.
Valentine toe drops Jack face first into eh chair, pin attempt,
Jack kicks out. Jack pulls Valentine’s head into the turnbuckle and powerslams
him then chokes him. Jack climbs the turnbuckles; Valentine meets him there.
Superplex by Valentine and everyone is flat on the mat. Jack up first and gives
Valentine the Last Ride for a near fall. Jack’s frustrated and climbs the
turnbuckles again. Moonsault? Yes but Valentine moves out of the way. Tweety
leading the cheers for Valentine who pumps up but Jack catches and plants him
for a near fall.
Both men have got to be spent but they keep going. Jack gets
Valentine in the corner but won’t break the hold, Hall tries to get him and
gets shoved down and that’s a DQ at 17:57. Jack gets some more shots in on Valentine
with the chair until security comes into the ring to separate them. Jack gets
on the mic and calls Valentine a bitch and leaves to the back. Needless to say that
this will continue at some point, the next show is June 10th.
