Deep South Wrestling Review -- Atlanta on October 1

We are BACK in ATL one month after we crowned a new Deep South Heavyweight Champion. 

Everything seemed like it would be perfect with very few clouds in the sky, lots of BBQ and an entertaining card before us. Let’s just get right into it! 

Prologue: The GREAT Era Begins. 

 We begin the show with our New Champ, Skrilla the Great. Out he comes to a crowd of mixed fanfare, slow strutting with every bit of swag he can muster. Soaking it in for a moment and then STUNT MARSHALL ATTACKS FROM BEHIND! No one knows what is happening as Stunt just wails on the new champ in an unprovoked mauling. Refs and Management eventually pry Stunt off Skrilla and send him to the back as quickly as he came out. Skrilla composes himself and eventually makes it to the ring. His Business Partner Tyler ‘The Wall’ Stevens has made his way to his side and they both enter the ring. Skrilla takes the mic and before he can even get going, Deep South Wrestling Legend AND First African American Deep South Wrestling Champion Ranger Ross comes to the ring. Skrilla surprisingly gives Ranger Ross a bit of time to speak and Ross thanks Deep South for being invited to be there. Ross talks about being the First African American Deep South Champion 37 years ago and says that Skrilla is standing on the shoulders of greats such as Rufas “Freight Train” Jones, Bobo Brazil and Thunderbolt Patterson. He was grateful to hold the belt and alludes to Skrilla that he should be grateful as well. Skrilla, being the D*** that he is, wants Ross to put the belt around his waist and he turns around for Ross to do so. Ross thinks for a moment and then says NO. He is NOT “Ya Boy” and he is NOT the one to play with. He saw how Skrilla won the belt (Many Shenanigans and you can see it on Deep South Wrestling’s social media or read the report from Last Month for details) and wants him to EARN the right for him to put that belt around his waist. Hmmm....We will see how this turns out later. 

Notes: WOW!!! Great and fast start to the show and Ranger Ross was a good surprise...Because Reasons (Ok I am black and seeing the first Black Deep South Champion did give me goosebumps for a second lol). Stunt Marshall stirring things up a bit makes for an interesting story. More on him later. 

Chapter 1. Sky Elements... Chad Skywalker d. Elemento 

First match of the day and we get a surprisingly slower pace from Skywalker. We all know he hits the ground 100 Miles and running, however he approached Elemento a bit differently. Elemento is a bit stronger and a little bit bigger and grounds Skywalker early. Elemento goes for a Head scissors, however we get a handstand out of Skywalker. Not Amused, Elmento kicks Skywalker in the butt and then starts to bully Skywalker a bit. A couple of chops, DAS BOOT (A boot to Skywalker) and a Big Suplex down Skywalker and Elemento covers lazily but only gets 2. The action spills outside and Elemento takes Skywalker through the crowd and chops away. Skywalker needs a water break, however Elemento stays on the attack. We head back into the ring Elemento is just doing what he wants to Skywalker. Atomic Drop, Chops and Skywalker finally gets enough air to hit a Hurricarana. Skywalker gets Elemento to the ropes and goes for a 404 (619 but we are in the ATL Bast Dammit) and misses but Skywalker catches Elemento with an Arm Drag to the corner. Drops kick for 2 by Skywalker sends Elemento reeling. We head back outside AGAIN and it seems that we have a back-and-forth chop fest outside from both. Back and forth, forth and back, the front row got their money’s worth. Elemento gets the better of everything again and seems to have it all locked up. After another boot to Skywalker in the corner, he goes for another lazy cover. Elemento puts Skywalker on the top rope and goes for a Muscle Buster, hits it and goes for the cover. Skywalker fights out at 2. Skywalker recovers with chops and a kick and then a Sliced Bread #2! Double Stomp to Elemento’s chest and a Back Flip Splash for the 3. Chad Skywalker SOMEHOW pulls out the victory!! 

Match Notes: A little clunky at times and could have just been a language thing. Nothing was bad; however, I know both men could be better if they ran it back. Let’s do it again please. 

Chapter 2. Stuntin’ on the Youth. Stunt Marshall d. Zach Mosley 

Stunt Marshall was feeling himself a bit being that he got one up on Skrilla earlier, however he should have been focused on Zach Mosley. Marshall had neck and wrist control early, and then Mosley decided he wanted Marshall’s arm. And damn did he do everything to get it. Starting with an Arm Drag, Mosley eventually ties up Marshall’s in the ropes and works it over. Marshall gets in an Arm Drag of his own and Mosley separates himself a bit to catch his breath. Both men trade blows and moves in the corner and Mosley goes for a splash but Marshall gets his knees up. Mosley, not one to give up so easily with his Youthful Spirit, smiles in Marshall’s face. Always trying to take his place and then hits him with a BackStabber (BACK STABBBERRR!! Alexa...Play Temptations Please). Mosley gets back to his job and back to work on the arm. Twists, Punches, Knees...All sorts of damage being done, and Marshall is writhing in pain. Mosley decided to spice things up a bit with a Leg Lariat and pin attempt but only gets 2 for his troubles...Oh well, he is back to the arm. Mosley Slams the arm, slaps the arm, twists the arm, Arm Bar’s the arm; even gets a Fujiwara Armbar in there. Marshall crawls his way to the ropes for a rope break. Mosley is super frustrated and starts to pitch a fit. This gives Marshall enough time to fight back. A few European Uppercut’s, a backdrop and a suplex later and Marshall tries for a pin himself and only gets 2. Marshall then hits a Fame-Ass-er for another 2. Mosley fights back and it’s ON but Marshall eventually hits a Powerbomb and gets the 3 Count. Stunt Marshall with the Win! No time for celebrating though as The Wall comes out to confront Marshall on Skrilla’s behalf! Before anything can go down, Eric Adamz grabs the mic. The Wall is told to go to the back, and he speaks directly to Marshall. Adamz informs Marshall that there is a restraining order (Damn I work for APD and couldn’t get an order that fast...But I digress!) put out against him by Skrilla and must leave the building. Marshall leaves and Adamz addresses the crowd. Instead of waiting till next month, the next show will be Oct 21st and it’s a Halloween Costume Party. More details to come. 

Match Notes: Good story being told with Zach Mosley working over the arm. Every time I see him, he seems to be the most comfortable guy in the match or card period and everything he does is just effortless. Always a joy. Stunt Marshall was solid for a guy who pretty much had his arm falling off all throughout the match. Guess we have seen the last of Stunt because of this restraining order...Or... 

Chapter 3. New Beginnings... Siomara Martinez d. ‘Malibabe’ Ivy Malibu 

Along with the new era of Skrilla the Great, we have the new Women’s Division kicking off! Gemma Jewels comes out and gets on commentary and we get introduced to new challengers in HER Division. Ivy Malibu and Siomara Martinez. ‘Malibabe’ Malibu came to show off; Martinez came to work. The lockup was a bit awkward, so Malibu decided to go to her “strengths” and work the crowd instead. Flex her muscles, pull legs from under Martinez. Kick in the corner and kicking rope...Twerk. Malibu chokes Martinez, more talking to the crowd. We even get somewhat lazy cover for good measure, but Martinez wisely gets her hands to the ropes. Martinez finally gets a bit going with a Clothesline and a Pedigree. Malibu uses her size and flexibility to roll Martinez over and then a Spinebuster. Malibu gets only a 2 Count for her effort and then throws a tantrum (Another Match, another meltdown. Hmmm is there a theme brewing). Martinez gets her $hit together and greets Malibu with Stomps and slaps before giving her Double Knees!! Eventually Martinez gets Malibu into a Boston Crab, and she has no choice but to tap. Winner Siomara Martinez! 

Notes: It was OK. The beginning of something will be a bit awkward sometimes but hey, keep working ladies. Could be something because the crowd wasn’t bored and was into it. 

 Interlude 1. Bait-a Ray reels em in! 

Ray the Entrepreneur comes out and has a bone to pick with one Taliaferro, D’Kay and Papa Marko (#JoinOurCult) and wants to debate them. As Taliaferro and D’Kay (#JoinOurCult) appear, Ray hides behind the announcer; however, the announcer wants NO part of this and bails out of the ring. Poor Ray. Ray cowers a bit as he airs out his grievances towards Taliaferro. He is tired of the disrespect and is going on and on as his voice gets higher and cracks a bit. Taliaferro grabs the mic and runs down Ray! Taliaferro is spittin flames and says he has NO Respect for Ray and that Ray is a Man without a Bitch! Sir!! Language!! Papa Marco eventually creeps in and all is seemingly lost as all three are standing united against Ray. Ray starts to fold when LAMAR DIGGS SNEAKS IN AND TAKES OUT PAPA MARKO! DIGGS HANDCUFFS PAPA MARKO AND RAY GETS THE STRENGTH TO HEM UP TALIAFERRO IN THE CORNER! DIGGS THEN GRABS D’KAY AS MARKO AND TALIAFERRO ARE HELPLESS TO DO ANYTHING! MARKO IS FIGHTING TO GET UNCUFFED AND TALIAFERRO PLEADS FOR DIGGS TO LET D’KAY GO! DIGGS THEN HOISTS D’KAY AND SLAMS D’KAY WITH A THUNDEROUS SITOUT POWERBOMB!! (DAMMIT DIGGS SHE HAS A FAMILY!!). DIGGS EXITS AS SOON AS HE ENTERS and Ray lets go of Taliaferro while Papa Marko is still struggling with the cuffs. Taliaferro is in shambles and his precious D’Kay is motionless and cry's out in pain for her. Papa Marko is finally free and carries the Child of Chaos to the back as a pissed off Taliaferro can do nothing but join him.

Chapter 4: Strange Alliance. Bad & Beautiful (C.T. Entertainment and C.B. Suave) d. Cosmo Martinez and Luka Daniels 

New Tag Team Bad & Beautiful vs Cosmo Martinez and....Luka Daniels??? Yeah no one really was prepared for Luka. B&B came out first and then Martinez. All was cool and then Daniels came through running down the crowd. Braves Losing (Eye Roll) Check. Things suck in Atlanta, Check. Big Boo’s coming from the crowd onto Daniels, and he just eats it up. Gotta love it. It was a good Tag Team match and it seems I missed a lot of it because as soon as I wrote something, I caught the tail end of another move. So you know what that means.... QUICK NOTES!!! *Luka Daniels...Please someone punch him in the face. *Poor Cosmo, out here with a partner he didn’t want. *Bad & Beautiful...Nice Name, could have fun with it later *Nice Quick Tags by B&B *How did Cosmo get out of that head scissors...Slippery that guy *Cosmo with a Rana...Luka with a Rana...B&B outside. COSMO AND LUKA FLYING OVER THE ROPES! Nice * Cosmo with the Splash! Cosmo with the Missile Drop Kick. He is all over the place. *B&B slows down Cosmo and they get to work him over. * Luka is slow to help Cosmo. Man he is a D*** (Skrilla aint the only one!) * Ok that is a nice Old School right there! Gotta love where someone walks on the Top Rope. * Why is Suave tearing off shirts?? * LUKA FINALLY GETS HOT TAG! * Luka acts like he wants to win the match now. Who’d a thunk it! * Shoulder Tackles, Slingblade, Atomic Drop, Enzeguri!!! Luka is on Fire and taking everyone out! * Cosmo finally gets his act together and joins the fun! * Things are going a little too we...OH MISCUE BY LUKA AND COSMO * Cosmo and Luka are arguing instead of focusing on the match! * B & B let them argue for a moment and OOOO!!!! Pump Handle Slam!!! Frog Splash!! Bad & Beautiful WIN!!!! 

 Notes: See above. 4 fast guys all over the place. Yeah, I had to keep looking up and down and all over and getting out of my seat to see it. If you don’t like quick notes, go look up the match yourself lol. I really did enjoy it tho. 

Chapter 5. For the Love of... Professor Pain vs C-Dub ends in No Contest. 

A battle for the ages is set to begin. Professor Pain: robbed of his chance to get a date with Gemma Jewels wants C-Dub to pay for his actions. C-Dub needs to be taught a lesson or two and Professor Pain is happy to do so. 2 Men. 1 Ring. The Love of a Woman on the line! THEY LOCK UP! Single Leg Take-down!! Necks to the canvas!! Feet on the ropes! Trading Arm Locks!! Back and forth they go and then...And Then... AUSTIN TOWERS STORMS THE RING!! Wiping both Men out because hell, they can’t stop him. Professor Pain, YOU GET A CHOKESLAM! C-Dub YOU GET A CHOKESLAM! EVERYONE GETS A CHOKESLAM!!! AUSTIN TOWER STANDING OVER BOTH. TOWER OVER ALL! Towers grabs the mic and says he wants Jacob Johnson. Challenges him to a Memorial Dr. Street Fight and Anything Goes! Towers leaves and Professor Pain and C-Dub are slow to recover. 

Notes: Welp there is that. We were robbed out of a potential Technical Clinic but NOOOOOO... Austin Towers had to mess it up lol. On the real, it was good to get a few Oooh’s and Aaah’s out the crowd to see a Big Man take down everyone in his path. Austin Towers is a Big Mutha F**ka! 

Chapter 6. Greatness everybody, Greatness... Skrilla the Great w. Tyler ‘The Wall’ Stephens d. Curtis Coleman 

IT'S TIME FOR THE MAIN EVENT! Skrilla knows that Deep South is his and he will always take his sweet time getting to the ring. Skrilla makes sure that everyone relishes in his Greatness and Coleman looks annoyed. Coleman came to fight; however, he must be patient. The announcer makes the introductions, and we are under way. Collar and Elbow tie-up: and Skrilla slides on outside of the ring. Skrilla walks around, speaks to a few fans, sips water and makes way back in. Coleman, waiting patiently at first, decides he has had enough and explodes with a Shoulder Tackle and drops Skrilla. A chop and a Dropkick follow, and Skrilla needs to get out of the ring again. Water Break for Skrilla. Well, it was SUPPOSED to be a Water Break, however Coleman gives chase. He gets his hands on Skrilla and tries to run him into the pole; however, Skrilla gets Coleman to meet the pole instead. The action finally returns into the ring and Skrilla controls things with a Drop kick. Coleman gets a few kicks in himself eventually and goes for a moonsault but misses. Skrilla, seeing an opportunity, takes advantage of the situation and starts going to work on Coleman’s Arm. For the next few minutes of the match, Skrilla grinds down the arm of Coleman. Breaking him down bit by bit, Skrilla is working at HIS pace and doing what HE wants to Coleman. Coleman does not give in and must muster every bit of strength to fight through the pain. Getting some space, Coleman hits a Discus Lariat, a Spinebuster and eventually a Bottom rope Moonsault followed by a Second rope Moonsault. A THIRD Moonsault by Coleman has Skrilla discombobulated however he kicks out of a Pin attempt. Coleman wants to end things and goes to the Top Rope; however, he runs into a wall...Well he is greeted by THE Wall, Tyler Stephens. The Wall distracts Coleman enough that he misses his move off the Top Rope and Skrilla hits a Skrill Ride for the win! Ranger Ross hits the ring with the Belt in hand and Skrilla is telling him to put the belt around his waist. Ross thinks it over for a bit and refuses to do so. He says that he was watching the match and since Skrilla didn’t win without distractions, he will not put the belt around him. Ross then says that he has someone who will straighten the situation out. Skrilla starts to go towards Ross, however Najasism creeps up from behind. Najasism takes Skrilla out with a Twisting Spear!!! Skrilla is down and Najasism grabs the mic. Says that he and Skrilla have done this dance over and over but now he wants a 1 on 1 with Skrilla for the Championship! Najasism celebrates as the show ends!! 

Overall Notes: This was a pretty good show with some good moments that kept the crowd really engaged. Seeing Ranger Ross at the beginning and the end of the show was pretty cool and I hope he gets to come back soon. Skrilla being taken out, Austin Towers looking scary and DIGGS...Lord what DIGGS did to D’Kay, I am SURE will get him a lot of threats but will make people come back to see what Taliaferro and Papa Marko are going to do in revenge. (D’Kay...Damn girl stay out the ring!!) 

With a crowd of about 350+ (Again, rolling number because it was a free show and people kept coming and going and coming and going), it seems that Deep South has found a nice groove and keeps getting better and better. Check them out if you get a chance.
