Stop #2 on my year end vacation and one of the most bittersweet. I was last in town for Aleksander Koloff’s (aka Tyson Dean) retirement match, now I’m back for the last match of Mike Pain/Monster Pain. I first saw a picture of Pain on an NWA Atlanta poster on FB in either 2012/13 and made the comment that is one person I would not want to meet in a dark alley. That got quite a few responses back then. Fast forward a couple of years and I was the ring side photographer for NWA Atlanta. In one of the big shows, a two-ring war game match, I was on top of a ladder, strapped to the middle of the cages, shooting pictures. A picture I took of Pain doing the choke powerbomb from the top rope on Zac Edwards made the NWA magazine.
10 Bell salute for Randy Ward who passed away recently. Wrestler Pure Goodness in the house, looking good. Ben Masters brings out the voice of Phoenix Wrestling Entertainment, Alexander Amaya who will be the ring announcer. Referees are Darryl Hall and Slim.
1st match, 1 fall for the Liberty Championship: KJ Impala(C) vs. Rob Killjoy.
Impala out first as champion, from the crowd’s reaction, he’s a baby right now, but Rob got a “fry that duck chant”, so I can’t be sure. Might be face/face. Size and strength to Impala, quickness and experience to Killjoy. 50/50 in the early going. Pin attempt by Rob off a missile drop kick. Dueling right fists leave both men on the canvas, both men up by 6. Strike fest leaving both men staggered and wobbly. Release belly to back by Impala. DVD by Killjoy. Rob looking and hits a running drop kick to Impala who was on the ring apron. Rob up top, looking to fly and lands the double stomp to the gut of Impala. CT Keys comes out with Fry Daddy and a mic, interrupting things. He had the chance to challenge for any title so this is now a triple threat. 8:53
2nd match,10 minutes has now been restarted in this triple threat.
Rob and Impala team up for a brief moment on the interloper but it soon evolves to every man for himself. Impala with a choke slam, but Fry pulls him out of the ring on the cover. Impala takes out Fry with a splash over the top rope. Rob is isolated with CT, gets several near falls, but then gets pounced at 3:54. And New Liberty champion: CT Keys.
WrestleMerica owner Bob Smith comes out and congratulates CT and tells CT and Fry that their tag belts (Fry is also WM champion) will be defended and that their tag match starts now.
3rd match, 1 fall for WM tag titles: Fry Daddy and CT Keys(c) vs Austin Towers and Hunter James.
James and Towers rush the ring and ref slim starts the match. Towers and James in control in the early going until CT Hot Shots James and Fry tags in. Crowd chanting Hollywood. Heel tag tactics. James fighting back, desperate for a tag. He makes the tag but Fry has ref Slim's attention and he didn’t see the tag. Towers forced to leave the ring, more heat on James. Crowd rallying behind James. A bell clap to CT leads to the hot tag and Towers cleans house on the champs. Sidewalk slam to Fry. CT pulls Fry out of the way of a Kobiya kick, 3D on Towers, James breaks up the pin. James looking for the 3 Amigos on Fry, but gets broken up. Keys had tagged in. Towers goes for a Kobiya kick but was too close to the ropes and gets dumped over. Fry lands on him. They fight on the floor and CT disposes of James at 11:37 to retain the titles.
4th match, 1 fall: Shane Curtis with Paul Wolfe for Family Matters vs Zac Edwards.
It’s been a since I’ve seen Edwards, he asks for and receives a microphone. He’s been back for 7 months to get his hands on Michael Stevens. In January, it will be he and Stevens, put up or shut up. Edward enters the ring and Curtis immediately attacks. Wolfe has set up a chair near me, but spends most of the time prowling around that corner of the ring. Edwards turns things around and sends Curtis out of the ring. Edwards follows, dealing out punishment. Wolfe sneaks in behind and slams Edwards onto the ring apron.
Curtis dumps Edwards out on the floor and distracts while Wolfe gets some shots in before tossing him back in. More heat on Edwards, he starts his comeback and lays out Curtis with a suck it nerd and gets a near fall. Curtis with a twisting DDT for a near fall. Curtis with several near falls on Edwards but can’t put him away. Curtis misses a corner splash, leading to Wolfe getting up on the apron to try to distract. Edwards turns this to his advantage and pins Curtis at 8:28.
Stevens comes out and yells at Edwards to leave him alone. Stevens agrees to the January match but if Edwards loses that match, Edwards must join the Family. Edwards takes it further, if Stevens loses, the Family must disband. Stevens agrees and adds in a falls count anywhere and will pin Edwards in front of his wife. Stevens dismisses Damage Inc. and then intros his “son” Luka Daniels, coming back from surgery. Daniels comes out bearing a gift -wrapped present. They hug in the ring. It’s been 4 months since his knee surgery. He’s here for his wrestling father, Stevens. If it wasn’t for Stevens, Daniels would have never been on WWE or AEW TV. Daniels gives Stevens the present, It's the first wrestling championship Stevens ever won, claims he spent $3k on it. Stevens is choked up. He wants Daniels to never be like Edwards and to never break his heart. Stevens then kicks the injured knee of Daniels. Stevens brings a chair into the ring, saying that this is for his own good. He places the leg into the chair and delivers a Conchairto, Daniels is writhing around, screaming in agony, all the while Stevens looks like he wants to cry. Stevens leaves. Masters, Smith and Ryan North come out to check on Daniels and help him to the back.
Intermission. Wedding proposal, she said yes.
5th match: Christmas Wrapping Tube Match: Bobby Moore vs. Jacob Johnson.
Johnson wins at 6:38. I had one of the wrapping paper tubes and couldn’t write. I had way too much fun with that. Sorry, not sorry, Bobby.
6th match: Damage Inc. (Paul Wolfe and Caleb Scott) vs Nawfside Heroes (Shoota Gabe and Jose Manuel).
Standard tag action, Jose takes most of the heat for his team. Hot tag to Gabe; he flies around, handing out strikes. Near fall on Curtis after a double team. Curtis disrupts another double and Jose gets sent to the floor. Gabe disrupts Damage double, Nawfside double team on Curtis and they pin him at 8:48 to become the new #1 contenders for the tag titles.
Main Event: House of Pain Match - loser incapacitated for a full 10-count: Mike Pain vs. ?
Stevens has offered $5k for anyone who can take out Mike Pain, We don’t know who will be facing Pain. Lights go out for Pain’s entrance. Curtis Coleman comes out, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him back in the UWF. Pain wastes no time in going after him and lands a twisting Vader bomb, Coleman up at 4. Coleman’s dropkick sends Pain down for a 6-count. Both men out on the floor for a moment, pain taking the brunt. In the ring, a lariat leave Coleman laying down like Peter Griffin. Spear by Pain, but Coleman rolled out of the ring and hot shots Pain when he reached for him. More punishment for Pain, but he won’t stay down. Pain laying some punches and lands a drive by, Coleman rolls out to break up the count and tries to leave to the back. Pain follows and body slams Coleman onto the floor. Hall gets up to 8 before Coleman gets up.
In the ring, Pain gets taken down with a spinebuster, then Coleman lands a bottom rope moonsault, then another when Pain starts moving. Coleman lands 3 more of those moonsaults because Pain was still moving. Pain gets up at 8 and gets Coleman with a Choke Powerbomb, leaving both men down. Pain up first but Coleman grabs him and hits a falcon’s arrow then goes up to and lands a leg drop from the top rope. Pain up at 7. Coleman rushes and Pain scoop slams him. Pain going up for a moonsault but Coleman moves out of the way. Coleman grabs a chair while the count is going on and waffles the back of Pain multiple times, I lost count at 10. Crowd is chanting “Monster”. Pain’s on his knees almost begging for the shot and Coleman smacks the chair directly on Pain’s head. This knocks Pain clean out and he can’t make the 10-count and Coleman wins the match at 18:00 on the dot. Coleman has the mask of Pain and parades around the ring with it and leaves.
The crowd is on their feet for Pain chanting “thank you Pain”. Mike Pain takes in the applause as Bob Smith comes into the ring. Smith presents Pain with a plaque to honor Pain’s 31 years of Wrestling. I won’t begin to describe his speech, there’s no way I can do it any justice.
Jan 11th is the next show here in Forsyth.
Final Thoughts.
Glad I could be here for this.
