From Larry Goodman:
Above all else, the DSW shows at New Realm are fun. They tell interesting stories. The wrestling ranges from average to excellent but it's the laid back, feel good ambience of these Sunday night shows that keep me coming back.
This show had five, count em', five title matches. Gemma Jewels became the first DSW Women's Champion since 1987. The DSW Championship was switched for the second New Realm show in a row.An Inaugural New Realm champion was crowned. Stunt Marshall made his first wrestling appearance since his Slap Fight video went viral.
The patio at New Realm was packed to the gills as per usual. What's changed is DSW has developed a following here -- the regulars outnumber the casuals in the seating area, although there are still plenty of curious onlookers who make their way in from the Beltline.
(1) Hunter James defeated CT Entertainment in 9:40. Strong heel/babyface dynamic. James is getting heat 100%. They had a solidly worked 50/50 match. DSW can count on James to have a high caliber match every time out and he's being booked about as strong as possible for a heel not in the title picture. CT hit an Eat Defeat and went up top. James felled CT with a pump kick and pinned hm.
(2) Austin Towers defeated Professor Pain (with Cuatro Cabezas & 40oz C-Dub) to retain the GIPW Championship in 8:03. This match was set up by Towers assholish behavior at the last show. Towers claimed to be the Georgia Champion. Pain had some success out-quicking the seven footer. Towers back splashed Pain forcing him to grab the ropes to avoid a three count. Towers decked poor Cabezas outside the ring. Cabezas got on the apron to bitch about it, which gave Pain a chance to german suplex the giant. Towers recovered and choke slammed Pain to oblivion to pick up the win.
C-Dub got in the ring with something called a chicken stick. Towers kicked him in Aunt Betty's nut butter and grabbed the chicken stick. The chicken stick was no match for the shovel Matt Sells brought with him to make the save.
Sells said he was sick of Towers and challenged him to a match at New Realm on July 27.
"Teflon" Jay Alpha Miller exercised his first amendment right. He spent about half the time verbally abusing interviewer Drew Dickinson and spent the other half putting over SIN, a faction consisting of Miller, DSW Champion Apollo Prince and Ryan Rembrandt. He correctly predicted Rembrandt would become the New Realm Champion.
(3) Ryan Rembrandt defeated James Storm and Matt Sells to become the inaugural New Realm Champion in 8:32. Nick Patrick brought the newly minted belt to the ring. New Realm title rules are no DQ, no counts and beer is legal.
This was super entertaining. Storm was really enjoying himself. Storm and Sells shared a beer toast before the bell. They took turns worked over Rembrandt, who had the gall to eat dinner during the match.
Rembrandt was able to gain the upper hand. Sells hit a series of clotheslines swigging on Storm's beer between blows. Storm was not happy about being handed an empty can. He DDTed Sells. Storm and Sells squared off. The crowd wanted them to kiss so this happened.
Then they toasted beers. A Storm superkick sent beer spewing out of Sells' mouth and Rembrandt rolled Storm up with feet on the ropes.
Postmatch, Apollo and Teflon came out to congratulate Rembrandt. Storm called for a replay of the footage showing Rembrandt's feet on the ropes and challenged Rembrandt to a fans bring the weapons streetfight on July 27. Rembrandt wasn't having it and said nah X 2. What a spoil sport.
Eric Adamz addressed the crowd. He said how much he loved the DSW fans, hyped the upcoming title matches and and put over Stunt Marshall's Power Slap exploits. A good percentage of the audience was aware. Adamz said Sal Rinauro and Caleb Konley were challenging for DSW Tag Team Championship they never lost back in 2007.
(4) Najasism defeated Champion Apollo Prince (with Jay Alpha Miller) and former DSW Champion Jacob Johnson to become the new DSW Champion in 10:42. This was a really good three way topped of with an unexpected title switch. Crowd was split about 2/3 against and 1/3 in favor of Naja as the Hoochie Daddy. The power of Johnson dominated early. Naja doublestomped Johnson on top of Prince and put Prince in the sharpest shooter. Johnson hit a double World's Strongest Slam that left all three down. A three way exchange of strikes ensued. Prince dragged Naja out of the ring and hit the Apollo Slam on Johnson. Teflon wanted to hand Prince the belt to use on Johnson. CT Entertainment got in a tug of war with Teflon. While the ref was distracted by the extracurricular activity, Naja used the belt on Johnson and pinned him. Crowd was still split on Naja, who came across as the craftiest guy in the ring.
(5) Stunt Marshall & DJ Smoke defeated Sal Rinauro & Caleb Konley to retain the DSW Tag Team Championship in 13:26. Good match. At one point, Rinauro and Konley brought the belts into the ring like they were theirs. After a powerslap tease and a plethora of back and forth close calls, Marshall slapped the shit out of Rinauro for the three count, though the bump Sal took couldn't compare to the one that dude took Friday night.
(6) Gemma Jewels defeated Audrey Allen via submission to become the first DSW Women's Champion since 1987 (11:15). Before the match, Nick Patrick brought the new women's championship belt to the ring. Jewels and Allen have good chemistry. Allen is a powerhouse. She only has two years in and she was trained by Tom Prichard so she's technically sound. Jewels is moving so much better at her lower body weight. There's no comparison between the matches she was having a couple of years ago and what she's doing now. Crowd was split but definitely leaning in Allen's direction. Jewels helped that along by using some heelish tactics. Allen almost had Jewels with a bulldog choke but Gemma got to the ropes.
Jewels locked in a variation of the cross armbreaker that utilized her six foot frame. Allen tried to fight it but was forced to submit. Despite her tactics during the match, the crowd popped big when she won. Jewels was legitimately moved by the occasion.
Ernest "The Cat" Miller came out with Patrick to present Jewels with the championship.
NOTES: Paul Santa and Richard Rasada (Buznego) were the referees...The Live commentary was provided by Nathan Hamilton and Drew Dickinson...Michael Longino was the ring announcer.
