June 29 Anarchy Wrestling Hostile Environment Report

From Larry Goodman:

The best thing that can be said about Anarchy Wrestling's Hostile Environment 2013 is that their fans have a lot to look forward to.

I take that back. Bobby Moore and Billy Buck proved that lightning can strike twice, and fans were treated to the surprise return of one of the top stars in the history of Cornelia wrestling.

Back to the point -- The advertised heavyweight title match never took place. Mike Posey won the right to get Anarchy owner Franklin Dove in the ring, but not until a later date. The tag titles are held up. The deciding match of a best of five series didn't decide a damn thing. Nothing was settled save the midcard feud between Washington Bullets and The Movement.

There were only 85 fans in attendance at the Anarchy Arena, down from 100 at the regular TV taping 7 days earlier.

To the company's credit, Anarchy didn't try to con fans into paying a premium for an event that didn't look all that special on paper. The ticket price was held at the standard $10.

June 22 Peachstate Wrestling Alliance Report from Carrollton, GA

From Peachstate Wrestling Alliance:

Attendance at the VFW Fairgrounds was 247.

(3) The French Sensation Romeo defeated Jed Johnson following a Samoan Drop.

(4) Rick Michaels & Tommy Too Much defeated Joey Kidman & Mike Jackson. Kidman was pinned meaning he must leave PWA. Michaels inadvertently pulled Tommy in the way of a spear by Kidman, but then hit the doubleshot for the pin. Post match saw Ace Haven attack Jackson, put him against the wall near the dressing room, and hit a sick looking spear off the stage.

(5) Simon Sermon defeated Shane Noles to become the new PWA Heritage Champion. Sermon hit a neckbreaker, rolled Noles onto his stomach and hit 7 running knee drops in a row into the neck area to get the pin. Post match saw Sermon say that's how business is done and he challenged anyone in the company to a match right now. Michaels double clotheslined Hooker and Too Much who had joined the celebration for Simon. Michaels then rolled Sermon up for a quick 1-2-3 and walked right out the front door again, just as he did June 1st.

Next PWA event is Saturday, July 20th.

Matt Borne, Original Doink the Clown, Dead At 56

From Greg Oliver:

"Maniac" Matt Borne, the second-generation star who funnelled his own personal issues into the twisted Doink the Clown character in the WWF, has died. He was 56 years old.

He was apparently found dead this morning by his girlfriend in their home in Texas.

Matt Wade Osborne, who was born July 27, 1957 in Oregon, was the son of "Tough" Tony Borne, a star in the Pacific Northwest and Texas.

He was a high school wrestler who began slowly making his way into Portland Wrestling as a professional.

Under the "Maniac" Matt Borne, he wrestled in numerous places. In WCW, he was Big Josh, a lumberjack.

But it's his role as Doink the Clown in the WWE that always seemed closest to his heart -- and his real personality.

It was based partly upon his upbringing, and his relationship with "Moondog" Lonnie Mayne.

June 21 All-star Wrestling Network Report from Fort Valley, GA

From Sean Cuebas:

Ben Masters announces that AWN Heritage Champion, Logan Creed, has been stripped of his title snd as a result this years Rumble in the Valley winner will not only receive a shot at the AWN Heavyweight Championship, they will be crowned Heritage champ as well!!

WildChild Joey Kidman returns to action in an extremely competitive matchup against Adorable Anthony Andrews but falls victim to the dreaded small package roll up. After the contest, Michael Hirsch enters and makes a case that the two need to pair up and take over the AWN!!

Despite the chants if CRYBABY, Dangerous Danny Horne dishes out some severe punishment but allows the debuting , Fry Daddy, to remain in the contest too long. Fry looks like a million bucks, moves extremely well, and gets the win in his debut!!

Chris Jacobs starts off on fire but is methodically picked apart by the Beast Shane Curtis!!

Marvelous Michael Stevens can make a broom look good in the ring buy tonight he had a much harder task as he took on Michael Hirsch. Surprisingly, Hirsch was in far better ring condition than his last appearance and made this a close contest. As Marc seized control and moved in to finish Hirsch off, WildChild comes to ringside and provides enough distraction for Hirsch to connect with a superkick and get the cover!'

As AJ Steele entered his name in the Rumble earlier in the evening, AWN Heavyweight Champion, Drew Adler, interrupted and wants a rematch following their double count out at the last show. He wants an Over the Top Rope Challenge, first man to go over and touch the ground with both feet loses. This was a really good match that saw Steele frustrate the fired up Adler by taking his time getting into the ring. Adler's emotions seemed to get the best of him as Steele dominates most of this contest. After an exhausting pace and numerous close calls by both men, Adler seizes control but as he goes to the outside to climb the ropes, Hirsch comes to the ring and pulls him to the floor. As Steele is ring announced as the winner, Hirsch and Kidman brutally assault the champion!!

Carolina Wrestling News and Notes

Everybody wants to get into promoting.......Mikael Norris (Michael Yamaha) ran a successful show in hometown Smithfield, NC on Saturday 6/22. The show benefitted cancer research/agencies and was represented by friends Cueball Carmichael, Lou Marconi and more. One name I hadn't heard in a long time was there signing autographs, and that was the Iron Chief. Yamaha was originally trained by Smithfield's own Shane "Hurricane" Helms.

Palmetto Championship Wrestling conducted a show on Johns Island, SC this past Friday night (6/21) at the Auction House. Women's wrestling legend Susan Green was on the bill. When last seen in the Charlotte, NC area, Green surfaced as the women's matchmaker for NWA Charlotte. She is a former NWA Women's World Champion having defeated the Fabulous Moolah (her original trainer). Also on the card (and you gotta love this name): Many Moore

East Coast Pro Wrestling (ECPW) followed up its "Relaunch" show with a second outing on Saturday 6/22 at the National Guard Armory in Thomasville, NC. The Storm Brothers, former ECWP Tag Team Champions in a previous incarnation, reclaimed the gold again winning a three-way elimination bout. Joe (and Damien) Storm had successfully run shows in Burlington, NC at the Armory until CWF (now CWF Mid Atlantic) came to Alamance County. Promoter Jeff Rudd wisely booked the Storm Brothers and put the tag straps on them. As a result, the Storms did not run many shows again. According to indyinsiders.com, ECPW Heavyweight Champion Ric Converse is now a double champion. He and tag partner Xsiris captured the CWF Mid Atlantic Tag Team Titles in Gibsonville, NC on 6/15.

NWA Smoky Mountain News and Notes

From NWA Smoky Mountain:

This past Saturday on NWA Smoky Mountain TV, "The Black Cloud" Joe Black challenged NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, Chase Owens to a match this Saturday in Kingsport, TN.

Owens has accepted the match. However, the title will NOT be on the line. That's not an issue for Black, as he wants to use this match to prove that he belongs in the ring with the best and if he can come out victorious, he will no doubt be the next man in line for a shot at Owens' title!

--- Speaking of this Saturday in Kingsport, TN; We have added a FREE gift to the event... Every fan that comes to Saturday's Event at at the Civic Auditorium, will receive a free ticket to NWA Smoky Mountain's next event in Elizabethton, TN on Saturday, July 13 at Happy Valley High School!

--- This Saturday, for the 1st time in recent memory, The Legendary Kingsport Civic Auditorium will be headlined by a Battle Royal... However, this Mountain Mayhem Battle Royal isn't your regular run of the mill version of the match.

All 20 competitors will be sitting at ringside during the match. The announcer will randomly draw 2 names. Those 2 men will start the match. Every 90 seconds another name will be drawn and that wrestler will join the fray. This will continue until all 20 men have entered the match.

The only way to be eliminated from the match is to be thrown over the top rope. The last man standing will go on to face Rob Conway for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title on August 10.

Stephen Platinum's Full Disclosure #6

The views and opinions expressed below are solely those of the credited independent contributor, and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of GeorgiaWrestlingHistory.com or any of its entities.

From Stephen Platinum:

Full Disclosure right off the bat: This piece is going to be about PCW’s experience at the Academy Theater where we did shows from January 15th, 2010 until September 28th, 2012. We did shows there every single week, without pause. I’m already half-finished with the next Full Disclosure, which is about the 10 Most Influential people on the Georgia wrestling scene. It’s filled with the snarky, brutal truth and educated opinion that is sure to make stomachs drop, panties bunch, and create the usual amount of obsessive, self-important ramblings and “profound,” grandiose statements from the usual suspects. Pun sort of intended.

Academy Theater is closed. Platinum Championship Wrestling did 142 shows at the Academy Theater. Robert Drake, the Artistic Director of the theater at the time, took a chance on us, plain and simple. PCW had left Sam Stone Studios in late 2009 in a secret move in order to preserve the integrity of the show itself. Sam wanted a number of things in the shows (music played constantly throughout the shows, no match to go more than 7 minutes, etc.) and was also insistent in inserting himself into the shows as a ring announcer and commentator, and showed a shocking lack of talent at both. For PCW, it was our shot at doing shows again, and weekly shows at that. I had always wanted to do a weekly show, thinking that between those and regular training sessions the guys would get better much faster. I had a notion that PCW wouldn’t be an indy that relied on outside names to draw. PCW wouldn’t be an indy at all.

Jackie Fargo Struts Into the Afterlife

From Greg Oliver and Steven Johnson:

There would come a time in the match where Jackie Fargo would make his comeback, but before going into it fully, would look out into the audience with a knowing grin, and then begin to strut. And not just any strut, but the Fargo strut, shaking his hips, bent over forward, hands extended, all done slowly, suggestively -- and driving the crowd bananas.

With Fargo's death today at the age of 82 -- he would have been 83 on June 26 -- there will be no more Fargo struts.

And don't go saying that he stole the strut from "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers.

"People say I did the strut because of Rogers, but I had never seen Rogers," Jackie said in The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Tag Teams. "I just did it on my own and it got over like a zillion dollars. People wanted to kill me."

Fargo had been in poor health for a couple of weeks, hospitalized with a serious heart problem, and had faced numerous other challenges over the years, including time in intensive care with pneumonia in both lungs back in December 2011.

The Cruel Tragedy of the Iron Sheik

From Kevin Iole:

His voice was instantly recognizable, like that of a long lost friend. But it was a joyless voice, and sounded a bit feeble.

Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, is 73, and is in pain. He badly needs knee surgery that he can't afford, but if the truth is to be told, every joint on his body could use fixing.

A lifetime in wrestling, amateur and professional, will do that to a man.

So Vaziri, better known as the evil pro wrestler, "The Iron Sheik," would on this day rather sit in his chair and let the hours pass by than talk about his life.

He aches all over, he's not making a lot of money and he wants to be left alone.

"Bubba, please, I will talk to you and answer all of your questions," he says, pleadingly. "But let's do it another time. Now is not good."

WWE 'Monster' Kane Goes to Mat Against Big Government

From Mike Mooneyham:

Jesse “The Body” Ventura once did it in Minnesota.

Could The Big Red Machine pull it off in Tennessee?

Glenn Jacobs, better known as WWE superstar Kane, has been touted by some Tennessee Tea Party groups as the man who could beat incumbent Lamar Alexander in the Republican primary for next year's U.S. Senate race in Tennessee.

Is it possible that the six-foot-nine, 300-pound WWE behemoth might be jumping from the wrestling ring to the political arena?

For now, pro wrestling is Jacobs' first love. The 22-year ring veteran has been one of WWE's most consistent and dependable performers, and will be part of a big show tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum when Monday Night Raw returns to the Lowcountry after a five-year absence.
