The big, year end show for UWF with two title matches and some
payoff matches. Stevie Ray Frost will defend the UFW Heavyweight Championship
against Nick Halen. The UWF Heritage Championship will be decided when Hunter
James and Luka Daniels fight over it. A Grudge match between Curtis Coleman and
Eli Smiles will happen. DC Washington and Jaden Vain will have a “I Concede”
match, and Alex Kytel and Austin Thorne will have a 2 out of 3 falls match.
It’s a rainy night in Colbert and they had to re-arrange the
seating to move the backstage area inside. It’s a bit more cramped, and
everyone has turned out for this show. it’s the most people I’ve seen here, at
least 85, prob more than that as there were some people standing near the doorway.
Jonathan Feltner is the guest ring announcer for tonight. Referees
are Slim and Brandon Todd.
1st match: For the UWF Heritages Championship: “Absolutely
Varsity” “Wunderkid” Hunter James (C) vs. Luka Daniels.
There’s a pre-match applause off, Daniels wins that. A
match-up of two of the best rising stars in Georgia and the Southeast. Daniels
lays out James with a couple of shoulder tackles and then slams James’s head
into all 4 turnbuckles, getting a near fall. James dodges a rushing Daniels and
kicks the legs out. Stomps in the corner, then uses a boot lace to choke
Daniels. James targets the left leg, Daniels counters with a flat line for a
near fall. A poke of the eyes, then a straight right hand from James, nicely
done. A mid ring collision leaves both men flat on their backs.
Daniels up first and
is firing away at James, landing a bulldog cutter for a near fall. Daniels goes
for a tilt-a-whirl but James switches it to a crossface. Daniels fights out and
slams James down. Daniels goes up top, James grabs the leg to prevent whatever
Daniels had in mind. James with a drop kick to the head of Daniels who was
still standing on the top rope. Daniels falls down and James picks him back up
for the brainbuster and the win at 8:20. And still Heritage Champion, Hunter
James.
The usual good stuff between these two. They need to lay
off for a while and then revisit this in 12-14 months.
2nd match: 2/3 falls match: “Hot Topic” Austin Thorne
with Xander Seabolt vs. Alex Kytel.
Seabolt had to correct Feltner’s intro of Thorne. Kytel
storms the ring going right after Thorne. Thorne tries to fight back, Kytel
kicks him out of the ring. They are fighting out on the floor with Kytel,
chopping away at the chest. Thorne catches Kytel coming into the ring and pins
him at 1:16 with his feet on the ropes.
A big boot to the face of Kytel, then Thorne rakes the eyes.
More punishment to Kytel but he keeps kicking out. Thorne slows things down and
applies a camel clutch. Kytel fights to his feet and backs Thorne into the corner.
Thorne goes for the Alabama slam, Kytel out of it and plants Thorne at 4:43
with the sister Abigail DDT.
Slug fest when they get to their feet. Sidewalk backbreaker
for a near fall on Kytel. Knee to the face of Thorne, Kytel rushes in, Thorne
picks him way up in the air and powerbombs him for a near fall. Awkward
exchange leads to Seabolt up on the apron for the distraction. Thorne almost
runs into him. Ref is distracted by Thorne to allow Seabolt to smack Kytel
across the head with his tennis racket. Thorne plants Kytel for the insult to
injury pin at 7:46.
Both guys have made major improvement to their games.
3rd match: Christmas Cash Battle Royal. Winner
gets $500.
Participants: The Grapplers, Jack Ledger, Aleksy Lev, JG, Mavith,
Kevin Car, Eddie, Beer Joint Brawler (Trent Harwell), Cyclone, Trigger, Shy, Damien
Knight, Josh Cross, Chris Nelms, Dynamic Dexter, Justin Sane, Luka Daniels, Tyler
Graves, and Curtis Coleman.
Coleman says he’s going to win, and he gets eliminated in
the first 20 seconds. There’s about 18 people in the ring, and I know the names
of about 6 of them. The trainees are dropping like flies. Alliances and
betrayals are happening faster than a Kardashian marriage. One of the Grapplers
knocks Nelms out of the ring, but Nelms pulls him out as well. The other Grappler
soon follows. Some poor shmuck takes bronco busters from Dexter and Daniels.
Final Four is Lane, Daniels, Trent Harwell and Damien Knight.
Knight takes a double team from Daniels and Lane. Daniels out by Harwell. Harwell
out by Damien Knight. Knight getting demolished by Sane. Knight is out at 8:16.
Winner of the battle royal and 500 smackers: Justin Sane.
Completely perverse entertainment factor here. I might
have missed a name or two of the trainees
Harwell back in the ring, offers his hand and raises the
hand of Sane and then attacks Sane from behind. He chokes Sane with some athletic
tape and then grabs the envelope of money and leaves the ring, looking to go
get some beer with it, I’m guessing
4th match: I Concede match: DC Washington vs.
Jaden Vain.
No pin falls, no DQ’s, no rope breaks, someone must concede.
Big pop for Vain. This has been building for several months. Won’t be surprised
if someone bleeds in this match. Vain lariats DC out of the ring. DC tries some
tricks, Vain shrugs them off. Arm wringer by Vain, DC refuses to concede. Vain
pounds at the head of DC, DC pulls him into the turnbuckle. Headlock by DC, no concession.
Vain dodges a rushing DC who posts himself. Fighting out on the floor, DC pulls
Vain face first into the ring post. Vain’s busted open. Vain fighting back, but
not that effectively.
In the ring, DC straps the body of Vain with his belt. DC
chokes Vain with the belt, got a good flow from Vain’s forehead now. Vain
fights out and grabs the belt, he goes to use it but DC yam bags Vain. Arm
submission by DC, Vain fights out of it. DC wraps the belt around his hand and
punches Vain right in the mouth. Vain falls out on the floor, DC follows. Vain
slips out of whatever DC wanted to do and applies the ankle lock. DC doesn’t
concede, Vain grabs a chair and smacks the back of DC a couple of times. In the
ring, Vain puts the ankle of DC in the chair and stomps on it. DC reverses Vain
and Vain goes face first into the chair. DC chokes Vain with the chair. DDT
onto the chair by DC.
DC grabs the ring bell, offers Vain the chance to concede,
Vain yam bags him. Vain grabs the bell and smacks DC with it. Vain with the
chair, measures up DC. DC’s opened up now but not a good flow. Chair shots to
DC. Spinebuster by Vain then the ankle lock on DC. DC rolls thought but Vain reapplies
it. DC rolls through again and Vain hits the turnbuckles. DC locks in the
Cancel Lock (crossface chicken wing). Vain trying to fight out of it and both
men fall out the ring and DC’s head smacks the concrete hard. Leg sweep into
the ring apron by DC. In the ring, Vain applies the Cancel lock and DC concedes
at 16:53.
Vain’s another guy who has made vast improvements in his
game. Nice ending to this feud.
Intermission.
5th match: Grudge match: Curtis Coleman vs. Eli
Smiles.
Feltner mentions brother versus brothers. Big pop for Smiles,
Coleman’s slinging around some beard sweat. Coleman rolls out of the ring at
the bell, very reluctant to get back in. Coleman drapes his arm around their momma
and says that he’s her favorite, she shaking her head. Smiles goes out and hugs
her, Coleman threatens to put her in a home. Coleman slaps Smiles in the face,
Smiles goes off on Coleman. Smiles chopping the chest hair off of Coleman. Smiles
gets thrown out of the ring and Coleman cuts him off when he tries to get back
in. Punishment on Smiles, massive chop to the chest. Smiles gets body slammed
onto the concrete. Crowd rallying to Smile, he beats the 10-count.
Coleman lands a drop kick that he’s extremely proud of. Coleman
rushes at Smiles in the corner, meets a boot, but lariats Smiles on the
rebound. Coleman tries to rip Smiles’ ear off. Delayed suplex by Coleman,
lasted about 30 seconds, gets a near fall. Coleman lands a second rope
moonsault, lands another, promises a third, Smiles rolls out of the way and
superkicks Coleman for the hope spot. Both men up and trade off on corner to
corner lariats. Smiles trips up Coleman on the last one and hits the flying
forearm for a near fall. Cutter by Smiles, he heads up top and lands the frog
splash for a near fall. Smiles sets up in the corner, rushes and eats a boot.
Coleman reverses a fireman’s carry into a slam for a near
fall. Falcon’s arrow on Smiles for a near fall, Coleman throws a mini tantrum. Coleman
goes nuts and starts striking at the unprotected back of Smiles’ head and Ref
Slim calls for the bell at 14:55. Winner by ref stoppage: Curtis Coleman.
Coleman gets more shots in on Smiles and Ref Slim’s not happy
with Coleman’s continued actions and reverses the decision and awards the match
to Smiles.
I did not know they were brothers, that added a totally
different view to this match. Coleman’s turning into a beast: a great look and
can go. Smiles is the fourth guy on the roster that 2023 would possibly be a
break out year for.
6th match: The Grapplers with Xander Seabolt vs. Brick
Hudson and TJ Trigger AKA After School Special.
hello bobsnocker, one of the Grapplers types on my keyboard.
Seabolt lays into Feltner about the fact that the Grapplers
are the only real tag team in UWF and want to be introduced as UWF Tag Champs. Seabolt
issues an open challenge to any two people who can think they can touch the
Grapplers. A couple of trainees from the battle royal come out, the little kids
in the crowd were screaming at that. Trigger’s very quick and uses that to keep
a Grappler off balance. Hudson’s in, Grappler shenanigans on him and he tags
out. More shenanigans by the Grapplers, such good stuff. Ref Todd’s totally
flummoxed with them. Seabolt gets some cheap shots in as well.
Triggers chest chops get cut off with an eye poke. These
kids are going to need their retinas reattached after all these eye pokes and
gouges. Hudson with the hot tag and we get stereo 10 punches of Doom on the
Grapplers. Seabolt hands off an undocumented object to one of the Grapplers and
that Grappler hits Hudson with it and gets the pin at 9:15.
Chris Nelms comes out and points out the object to Todd and
Todd restarts the match. The Grappler gets rolled up for the win. Winners of
the match: After School Special.
One of the Grapplers challenges Nelms to a match. Nelms
kicks him in the nards and he gets pinned. The other Grappler wants Nelms as
well and he gets narded and pinned. Seabolt goes to attack Nelms and eats what
Nelms was dishing up, and he gets pinned as well.
Ah, the good old comeuppance. Such a satisfactory emotion
it produces. Also, the match was just good shit.
Main Event for the UWF Championship: Stevie Ray Frost (c)
vs. Nick Halen.
Hero’s welcome for Halen. Frost tries to intimidate Ref Slim
and gets serenade with a you suck chant. Frost with a cheap shot off a break in
the corner, gets punished for that. All Halen in the first several minutes and
Frost has to retreat from the ring with Halen right on his heels, chopping and
punching away. Back in the ring, Halen no sells Frost’s chops; one chop from
Halen and Frost is down. Halen rushes in, Frost moves, and Halen takes the Hart
turnbuckle. Frost choking Halen in the corner. Halen fights back and they slug
away at each other.
A knee to the gut of
Halen for a near fall. More punishment and Halen gets tossed out of the ring.
Frost chops at the chest of Halen, this gives Halen some fire. They are
fighting on the ring apron, and Halen hits the STO. Halen takes a back body
drop and Frost chokes away at Halen. Halen punches up and hits a GTS but is
slow to cover and Frost gets a foot on the rope. Halen and Frost collide and
Halen kips up. Three punches to the head of frost followed by a couple of
atomic drops. Frost catches a flying Halen for a belly-to-belly suplex. Some
back elbows from Halen leads to a superkick. Halen flies from the second rope
and plants Frost. Halen up top and lands the macho elbow for the win at 15:17.
And new UWF Heavyweight champion: Nick Halen.
Final Thoughts:
After a comeback year of 2021, 2022 Halen’s star is shining
brighter than ever and for good reason: He’s that damn good.
Frost is making waves as he should.
Here’s to hoping that Santa will bring UWF a new(er)
building in 2023.
