As the temperatures rise, so does the intensity, talent and entertainment of a Deep South Wrestling show! Once again from their “home base” of New Realm Brewery, this card was STACKED with some of the best in the greater surrounding Atlanta area and did not disappoint!
The show starts with Eric Adams in the ring to break down each stipulation of the Tag Team Main Event: each competitor has something to lose on the line if they take the pinfall or submission loss. Champion Jacob Johnson can lose his title, Najasism can lose his hair, Apollo Prince can lose his chance to challenge for the title for a year, and Jay “Alpha” Miller can lose the ability to work for DSW. We are also introduced to the Ring Announcer for the day, Tony Miller, while Drew “Drewski” Dickenson and “The Voice of Violence” Nathan Hamilton on commentary.
Match 1: Duncan M.A. vs CT Entertainment—(Ref Richie) Duncan M.A. on the mic pre-match to berate the fans only to be interrupted by the “Pride of Birmingham” CT Entertainment who had a few rebuttals for M.A.’s diatribe. The action picks up early as both competitors looked to garner the early advantage. Quick exchanges of chain wrestling holds along with the speed of CT pushed early momentum in his favor. Duncan would not let this be his undoing however as he found his footing while keeping CT grounded and unable to mount any offense. With encouragement from the fans, Entertainment found a groove to get back into the contest with a variation of a Blue Thunder Bomb, keeping Duncan on his heels with many great strikes while smashing M.A. with a crushing Sling-blade! CT climbs the ropes and delivers a devastating Swanton Bomb for the 1,2,3.
Winner: CT Entertainment
Match 2: “Hollywood” Hunter James vs DJ Smoke (1/2 of the DSW Tag Team Champions)—(Ref Paul) On paper this match has the hype of a Main Event based merely on the overall talent these two possess. Open “verbal” bell by Hamilton at ringside causes James to stop in his tracks and ask “where’s the bell?”. To which Hamilton replies “that IS the bell”. Not a good enough answer for James who rolls out of the ring, heading for the curtain. Smoke gives chase and both JUST make it back into the ring before Referee Paul counts them out. James did not arrive empty handed as he brought back his makeshift “bell”….a plastic cup! Minutes later the real bell makes it to ringside (must have been delayed by Atlanta traffic, very understandable) and is rang to officially start this match. This chess match of Hunter’s cerebral athleticism pitted against the speed and energy of Smoke was exactly what the crowd wanted as cheers and chants were shouted the entire contest. Smoke gets the early jump as his shiftiness was more than James could keep a grasp on. DJ showcased his impressive dropkick and more sending Hunter rolling to the outside for relief. After a brief cool down, James hops back in the ring to start his assault on Smoke. James ended his barrage of incredible maneuvers with his own dropkick as the announcers declared each competitor had two of the best drop kicks in the game. James used a running high knee in the corner to counter a DJ attack only to follow that up with his trademark standing backflip into a German suplex followed by a short-armed clothesline. Smoke is able to rebound and just as it appeared he may take the win, James utilizes a rollup for the victory!
Winner: “Hollywood” Hunter James
Professor Pain, 40oz C Dub and Cuatro in the ring to talk about one of the best masked wrestlers who also helped make Deep South Wrestling such a stronghold in the South: Jody Hamilton. They both pledged to help bring back great masked wrestling to Deep South while hinting towards a potential partnering up.
Match 3: Nathanial Vanderbilt vs Cosmos Martinez—(Ref Paul) Vanderbilt with the before the bell onslaught of Cosmos only to catch a plethora of boos from the fans. “Lucha! Lucha! Lucha!” chants were going early and seem to spark Martinez to a small response of the Vanderbilt bombardment. Lots of arm drags, wrist locks and cross body attacks by Cosmos sent Nathanial scampering to the outside for reprieve. The crowd really built up behind the masked superstar of Cosmos only to have Vanderbilt regain control with moves like a pump handle neck breaker, tornado enziguri and finally getting a near fall with a running shooting star press. The kickout by Martinez was the boost he needed as he kept pushing forward ultimately getting the win with a tilt-a-whirl into a Fujuwara armbar! After the match, Eric Adams back in the ring to remind fans that Cosmos was on Show #1 for DSW and to reward all his hard work to this point he will get a DSW Heavyweight Title shot in August against whomever is the champion at that time!
Winner: Cosmos Martinez
Match 4: Austin Towers vs Stunt Marshall (1/2 of the Deep South Tag Team Champions)—(Ref Richie) The bell rang and this rematch of earlier this year was ON! As big and powerful as Towers is, Marshall can find ways to stay in a fight with the big man. Towers size was the harder issue for Stunt this go around though. Each moment the Mayor of Hateville would tip the scale in his favor, Austin was right there the crunch his opponent back to the canvas. Austin employs one of the most devastating sidewalk slams in wrestling as Stunt would attest after this one. Marshall’s last blast of energy and strength was met with the one-armed catch of Towers, resulting in the sky high chokeslam and the victory. After the bell as Towers looked to add more damage to Marshall, the trio of Eric Adams, Professor Pain and 40oz C Dub rushed to the ring to help Marshall avoid further punishment. Many words exchanged between all participants that lead to a match booked for the next show on June 29th between Austin Towers and Professor Pain. Pain’s reason for taking the match was that he does not like bullies and believes they must be stood up to.
Winner: Austin Towers
Match 5: Main Event: Jay “Alpha” Miller, Apollo Prince vs DSW Heavyweight Champion Jacob Johnson, Najasism—(Ref Paul) With all the before-mentioned stipulations this had to deliver and it absolutely did. Jacob and Najasism held the momentum for a majority of the match in a hard to pull off “faces” using the “heels” tactic of cutting the ring off while isolating the partner of the opponent. It was Miller who took a lot of the damage from the champ and “the greatest, the baddest, the best” while still holding his own with the two big talents. Finally, Alpha makes the hot tag to Apollo. Prince uses his sheer power to level the playing field, allowing Miller to recover and join him to go two on two with all the spoils on the line. In the end, as Apollo attempts to cover Johnson, Najasism leaps to the top rope to drop a frog splash and break up the pin. Unfortunately Prince saw him in enough time to roll out of the way, leaving only one spot for Naja to land: on top of Johnson. Prince and Alpha clear Naja from the ring. Prince adds a few trademark powerbombs for good measure before pinning the champ for the 3 count! And NEW…Deep South Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, Apollo Prince! Mille and Prince celebrate as we see Jacob and Naja find each other to discuss what just happened. As Prince was crowned by Miller, the duo sauntered to the back. In the ring, Jacob appears to forgive Naja who responds to the forgiveness by dropping the now former champion in front of everyone?! Many were left in awe while waves of boos echoed from the crowd. Naja seemed to enjoy it and continued to beat down Jacob. After he felt he had done enough he grabbed a nearby microphone and while looking Eric Adams straight in the eye said he was tired of doing the right thing. It was time to look out for himself. His parting words for all deck patrons was to “Stand up and clap for your Hoochie Daddy”. Welcome to the Hoochie Daddy world of Najasism.
Winner (and NEW Deep South Heavyweight Champion)—Apollo Prince.
