From Rob Brodhecker:
WGW break out an updated seating configuration and have
actual metal barricades now. Four matches were advertised on the poster with other
names mentioned. The main event of the evening will be Frankie Valentine facing
Lamar Phillips inside of a steel cage for the WGW Heavyweight Championship.
Darryl Hall and Ryan “Butterbean” Harmon will be your
referees. WGW Commish, Scott East will handle ring announcing duties tonight. The
crowd count is at 160+/- small children.
Chris Lightning with Chris Ganz vs. Sean Nelson
Lightning is heeling
it up tonight against the perennial fan favorite, Nelson. Ganz interrupts a
Nelson pin attempts on Lightning, allowing Lightning to roll Nelson up for the
win at 5:57.
Thoughts: Standard opener.
Talliaferro and Talon Oxyn come to the ring. Talliaferro
cuts a promo introducing the crowd to Talon, the crowd tries to drown him out. He
also makes reference to a certain Top Ten List.
Talon Oxyn with Taliaferro vs. Duncan Mitchell
The crowd was primed
to cheer for anyone who came out to the ring after Taliaferro’s promo and they
got a good one with Mitchell. Oxyn wants to play the delay game, but Mitchell
chases him into the ring. Oxyn trying to play some mind games, Mitchell isn’t
having it. Talliaferro runs interference to get Oxyn’s offense on track. A nice
overhead throw by Mitchell starts his comeback. A nice spinning slam gets
Mitchell a near fall. Talliaferro sticks Mitchell in the ribs while Ref
Butterbean was checking on Oxyn, and Oxyn follows up and pins Mitchell at 10:40.
Thoughts: A good debut to WGW by Mitchell against Oxyn with
whom the crowd dislikes. This is the second appearance for Talliaferro and he
got major heat from the crowd.
Talliaferro gets on the mic and warns Frankie Valentine about
facing Beautiful Madness at the Wrestling United show next Saturday.
Chris Ganz vs. Josh Storm
Storm gets the pop
from the crowd on his entrance. Nothing fancy on this, but it doesn’t need to
be for the crowd. The finish see Storm roll up Ganz after he dodges the rushing
Ganz at 8:55.
Ganz kicks Storm in the nards after the match. Chris
Lightning comes out and they beat down Storm until Storm’s old tag partner,
Sean Nelson runs them off with a baton in hand. Nelson is on the mic and
addresses the fact that while there have been some differences between Storm
and Nelson, next Saturday, they will team up at Wrestling United. DWGB will
ride again for the last time.
First Intermission.
Brad Lynch with a Masked Man vs. Aaron Dallas
The jeers start as soon as Lynch pokes his head out of the
curtain. He’s on the mic and he runs down Scott East. Lynch turns his attention
to the crowd and his opponent who is making his WGW debut. Dallas is a trainee,
recently turned pro and has wrestled in ProSouth in the recent past. He has a
large support section in the crowd, they might be trainees as well. He’s a good
looking kid, just not sure about those jorts, though (even if they were that
tight). Ref Butterbean is acting weird tonight, he’s missed seeing Lynch pull
the golden locks of Dallas twice now, and he accuses Dallas of pulling Lynch’s
hair. The match is very much a Heel Vet vs. Face newbie. Lynch uses his wrist
tape to choke Dallas and the masked man chokes Dallas as well behind the ref’s
back. The masked man gets on the ring apron to distract Dallas during his hope
spot and Lynch pins Dallas at 10:57.
Thoughts: A very well put together match. It had everything
it needed to get Dallas over with the crowd and throws at least one storyline
out there.
After the match, Lynch and MM are threatening to whip Dallas,
The Mercenary, Mark Hannah, runs out to make the save but he gets a nut shot
for his troubles. Lynch and MM are punching away at Hannah, Dallas tries to get
back into the ring but gets stomped out. Hannah’s son tries rushing the ring,
but security keeps him at bay. Jimmy the Kid runs out with a pvc pipe and chases
Lynch and MM off. Lynch is saying that he runs Georgia. Nothing much is said
after that, Dallas gets the love from his section.
Cyrus the Destroyer vs. Brian Andrews
Andrews gets
somewhat of a pop, but all eyes are on Cyrus. The middle rope breaks when
Andrews plays to the crowd. Andrews wishes a fan happy birthday. They will have
the match despite the rope break. Cyrus wins at 3:02.
Thoughts: Andrews the ring breaker!
Second Intermission to set up the cage.
Steel cage match for the GWG Heavyweight Championship: Lamar
Phillips vs. Frankie Valentine(c) with Tweety.
This match has been
set up over the past couple of shows, with Phillips beating Valentine two shows
ago, but it was an unsanctioned match. Things get physical fast, with punches
being thrown by Valentine and Phillips throwing Valentine into the cage wall. The
middle rope was unable to be repaired, so they are dealing with just the top
and bottom rope. Valentine’s bleeding at about 5 minutes into the match, good
flow going. Frankie sends Lamar into all four sides of the cage, looks like
Lamar’s bleeding now. Valentine gets a couple of near falls on Phillips. Phillips
starts to climb to the top of the cage but gets caught with a side Russian leg
sweep from the top rope. Phillips gets frustrated with Ref Butterbean’s slow
count and send the ref into the cage, face first, and then tosses Butterbean
out of the cage. Valentine has the visual three count on Phillips but Ref Hall
was delayed getting into the ring to make the count. Phillips turns Valentine
inside out with a lariat and pins Valentine at 15:09. Phillips is your new GWG
Champion.
Thoughts: If you wanted blood, you got it from both men. Phillips
finished what he started a couple of months ago.
Billy Knight comes
into the ring to check on Valentine and then smacks a chair across Valentine’s
head. Knight locks in a figure four and security runs into the cage to pull
Knight off of Valentine. Knight calls Valentine a disappointment. Scott East calls Knight an asshole.
Final Thoughts:
Not sure if this will be a repeat of the Family First feud
from back in the UIW days, as Billy retired some years ago. Time will tell as
always.
The regular ring announcer was at a gospel concert, so Scott
East did double duty.
We haven’t had a heel ref in a while.
Again, good debuts for Dallas and Mitchell.
You have the heel champ, now who are you going to toss at
him?
There was some cross promotion with Wrestling United
tonight. This is now a solid trend happening in Georgia’s many promotions.
Ganz and Lightning look like they are the new heel tag team
in WGW.
Welcome back Jimmy
the Kid.
Congrats to AJ Black and his teammates on their Little
League win.
Is that Top Ten list completely shot now? Yes. Yes, it is.
